To God be all for the gift of His humble, abiding and steadfast servant Organist at the Forks of the Brandywine Shirley Ferguson’s legacy at the Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian Church may first be marked by the 58 years she served as organist. Shirley was a consummate musical professional, in voice as well as in the mastery of the organ, to which she devoted the talents God had given her. She touched all who came through the doors of the sanctuary with her accomplished style on the magnificent Dutch Craft pipe organ the Forks has been blessed with for nearly 100 years. But Shirley’s greatest legacy will be the example she set as a God-loving, Christ-centered individual and the love she displayed for all who came in contact with her. Her compassion, her gentle and unassuming nature, her desire to know and love her Lord, her indomitable godly spirit in spite of difficulties suffered in life, and her desire to live in God’s Word and to let Him work through her to lead others to Him are but a few of the beautiful memories she has left with all of those who knew and loved her. Shirley was a friend to all and a stranger to no one once they had met her. She touched lives far beyond the walls of the Forks, not only through her musical talents as she instructed young and old alike in piano and voice but by living her life and raising her family in the manner she chose which exemplified the Christian life.
