Our Purpose:
is to LOVE the Lord God with all our heart;
to LOVE one another;
to SHARE salvation in Christ;
to WELCOME all to be a part of the family of God; and
to HELP the family of God grow in faith.
Let's Let the Spirit Work Here!

Our History:
The Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian Church was
organized by and comprised of a majority of Scottish and
Scotch-Irish settlers on September 26, 1735. It is believed that
these settlers were, at one time, members of the Octorara Church.
A little known fact is that the church's more popular name was,
and in some cases still is, the Brandywine Manor Church. The
first pastor to "The Forks" during this pioneer period
was the Reverend Samuel Black. In 1761, the Reverend John
Carmichael, a native of Scotland, was installed as pastor. Known
as the "Revolutionary Pastor," Rev. Carmichael
whole-heartedly supported the "revolution." He preached
before Congress, was present at the Battle of Long Island, and
urged enlistment into the army. Rev. Carmichael was a counselor
of General George Washington. At one point he was forced, with
his family, to flee from the church due to an impending British
raid. John Carmichael lived to see the independence of his
country acknowledged by the British government.
There are many other wonderful and important historical
events that surrounded The Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian
Church. One was the building of the present sanctuary; the
cornerstone was laid on August 7, 1875 and a service of
dedication was held in December of 1876. This was the third
sanctuary of record. Another singular event was the guest
preaching of the notable evangelist, Dwight L. Moody in 1892.
The Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian Church has
always had a wonderful and rich history of conservative ideals
and theology while always looking forward to the future. Under
the leadership of the Reverends H. H. Kurtz, John A. Kauffoth,
and Robert G. Stier, and the present pastor, Rev. James Andrew
Curtis, "The Forks" has and continues to be true to the
Word of God and the tenets of the reformed faith while seeking to
live in the cutting edge of modern-day Christianity.

Historical Sketch available in the church office.

What We Believe:
Your personal relationship with God: You can
have eternal, abundant life through Jesus Christ.
- God
loves you and created you to have a personal relationship
with Him

- Our
sin separates us from God

- Only
through Jesus Christ can you have a personal relationship
with God

- You
must personally respond by trusting Jesus Christ as Savior
and Lord

- You
can express your faith (trust) through prayer

- Your
trust in Jesus Christ begins a lifelong relationship

The Bible: Both the Old and New Testaments are
the inspired Word of God without error in the original writings,
and a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men,
and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and
life.
Father God: There is one God, Creator of all things,
infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Persons:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ is true God and true man,
having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin
Mary. He died on the cross, the complete and final sacrifice for
our sins. He arose from the dead, ascended into heaven, where He
is now our High Priest and Advocate.
The Holy Spirit: The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to
glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to convict men of sin;
regenerate, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer
for godly living and service.
The Church: The true Church is made up of all who through
faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit
and are united in the body of Christ of which He is the head.
The Sacraments:
- Water baptism soon after accepting Christ as
personal Savior, is a testimony of death to sin and
resurrection to a new life.
- The Lord's Supper is a memorial service setting
forth in sacred and symbolic manner the death of the Lord
Jesus Christ; all true believers and only believers should
share in it.
